Light finds a way through.
The story behind our name, and the purpose behind our work.
Why the name?
A hole in the clouds is a small, specific thing: a break in something heavy, where light gets through. That's the feeling we want a child to have when things at home are hard — that even in the middle of something overwhelming, there's a way through, a steady place to stand, and someone willing to help find it.
Why we exist
Hole in the Clouds is being established as a Public Benevolent Institution with a single, clear purpose: providing direct relief to children and young people suffering distress, helplessness or misfortune as a result of family separation or breakdown.
We're building an organisation around that purpose — not the other way around. Everything on this site describes what we're setting out to do, and where we are on the way to doing it.
Our child-focused philosophy
Five principles guide every program we're building.
The child's welfare comes first
Every decision starts with what's genuinely best for the child.
Neutral and non-judgmental
We don't take sides in parental disputes — our focus stays on the child.
Dignity and respect
Families come to us at difficult moments. We meet that with respect, not judgement.
Privacy by design
We collect only what we genuinely need, and handle it carefully.
Practical relief
Real, tangible support connected to a real, specific need.
Local, on purpose
Hole in the Clouds is starting in the Blue Mountains region, New South Wales, Australia — not as a national program with a local chapter, but as a genuinely local organisation built for this community first. Any future growth will be considered carefully, and won't change what we're here to do.
